1956 Linemar, Battery Operated Monorail Rocket-Ship in Original Box
Superb, barely used and very "50's futuristic"; this is the Battery Operated Monorail Rocket-Ship manufactured by Lineman. It's complete, works great, and has with it's original box and instructions. The toy easily grades excellent+ to near mint. The box is VG+. Several variations of this set were produced with modifications made to the rocket and box illustration. This is one of the all tin litho earlier models with paper applied box illustration. The rocket is silver and metallic blue rocket with red stripes and fins that travel continuously along its sides. The switch underneath the rocket allows it to move forward or reverse. It has embossed windows with passenger silhouettes in each one. It has embossed white striping around the windows with red lightning bolt near the cockpit. Even more important the battery door stays firmly clamped shut during movement. Although it travels over two wheel runners only the front runner provides power. Uses two D-cell batteries. The 10 trestles are teal green and black and are capable of expanding and contracting the legs. This allows the setup to sit squarely on most surfaces including carpet or linoleum. The "Rails" consist of 12 chrome plated steel rods (six curved and four straights) which insert easily into the trestles. Once assembled it measures 6ft. long by 3ft. wide with a total circumference of 12 feet! And again.......everything works smoothly without binding or hesitation. The box has an applied full color illustration of the monorail passing out of a city and into the country. It still has its original Japanese export approval sticker on one in. Instructions were printed on the underside of the cover. The box has a separate, but attached insert specifically intended to protect the rocket. Size: Rocket 10". Box 15" x 6" x 3".
